WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO ADAPT INTUITIVE EATING FOR NEURODIVERGENT PEOPLE?

Intuitive Eating, it’s a practice. It’s this interceptive awareness, so it’s that brain and body connection. Now, back to every-body’s different. That means that that’s different for every body. So there are these principles around Intuitive Eating, but again, that doesn’t work for everybody. Now, when we look at Neurodivergence, then we can see, okay, this interoceptive awareness is a little more challenging to get to. So we have to change some of these principles and the way that we look, understand, and practice Intuitive Eating. A lot of times the brain is like a Ferrari and it’s like zooming down the street and the body is like bicycle breaks kind of, “Hey, wait, wait for me?” And that makes it really hard for that interceptive awareness to fully connect. So we utilize Intuitive Eating in a very different manner to help understand that our cues don’t have to be, “Oh, I feel hunger. I feel fullness.” There can be a lot of ways to identify what the body needs.
